It can be very exciting to start thinking about and planning your kitchen renovation but many people get overwhelmed with the choices that are out there. To help with feeling bombarded over the types of cabinets to choose from, we have created a little guide so you can choose what will make the kitchen the most functional for you!
1. Determine the size of your kitchen and the layout you think would create the best 'flow.' Are you seeking an 'L-Shaped', 'U-Shaped', open-concept, etc. type of kitchen? The RTA Store offers free kitchen designs with professional help from their consultants which can help you make this decision.
2. Once you have a basic plan, its time to start thinking about the size of the cabinets you want and the things you will be putting in them. Think about the size of your dishes, pots and pans, silverware, cups, and bake ware. The last thing you want is to have a brand new kitchen and then to find out your dishes won't fit in the cabinet you had planned for it!
3. Now its time to start thinking about upgrades and what would make the most sense for you. If you are worried about cluttered cabinets, it may not be the best idea to get glass door inserts. However, if you have a large cabinet for pots and pans, you may want pull out shelves to make organization and reach ability easier. Do your spices constantly get unorganized and you can never seem to find the one you want? You may want to think about putting in a spice rack to make life a little easier. Once you pick and choose the right upgrades for you its time to order the cabinets!
4. Once your cabinets are ordered and you are happy with the outcome, don't forget about the finishing touches. You may want to upgrade your counter tops or add new knobs and pulls. It may feel right to put in a tile back splash and add a bit of color to your new kitchen.
When renovating your kitchen, its all about what works for you and what can make life a little easier for you when navigating around the kitchen. It's best to think about your personal items and what type of cabinets will fit those items. You want to create the most cabinet space leaving out the dead space that can't be used for storage.
